TA Development & Network Group

Our aim is to improve the professional impact that Teaching Assistants can have by giving them opportunities to:

  • deepen their knowledge & understanding of the roles, responsibilities & expectations of Teaching Assistants
  • ask questions and focus on specific needs
  • network and share good practice with colleagues.

Course Summary:
The course consists of four afternoon sessions spread over the Spring & Summer Terms 2019. The course provides an introduction to Professional Standards for Teaching Assistants addressing a different theme each session.

Session 1: Personal & Professional Conduct
Focusing particularly on how Teaching Assistants:

  • Understand the teacher assistant standards.
  • Commit to improving their own practice through self-evaluation & awareness.

Session 2: Knowledge & Understanding
Focusing particularly on how Teaching Assistants:

  • Understand their roles and responsibilities within the classroom (EEF Tool Kit – Making Best Use of Teaching Assistants.)
  • Support independence.
  • Contribute to the adaptation & delivery of support to meet individual needs.
    Sessions 3 & 4 (‘Teaching & Learning’ and ‘Working with Others’) take place in the Summer Term.

Target Audience: Teaching Assistants in Primary Schools
Dates: Spring Term—Session 1: Monday 28th January & Session 2: Monday 4th March 2019.
Time: 1.30pm—4.30pm
Course Venue: Barrow CEVC Primary School, IP29 5AU
