Clare will explain how her school’s approach to the teaching of Reading led to 2017 KS2 SATs results which were 10% above the national average with pupil progress scores of 2.4 in Reading.
She will focus on:
- Why teaching inference is hard – what the research says
- Close reading (based on the work of Doug Lemov)
- Practical ways of teaching vocabulary (based on the work of
Isabel Beck & Alex Quigley)
The outcomes from this day should enable Literacy Subject Leaders, Class Teachers and Headteachers to understand the principles and importance of ‘robust instruction’ and to consider the implications for the teaching of Reading Comprehension within their own schools.
